The National Medical Commission (NMC) has unveiled the updated seat matrix for postgraduate medical programs for the academic year 2026-27. This matrix indicates that there are a total of 63,177 PG seats available across various medical colleges and institutions throughout the country. This total includes 33,088 seats in government institutions, 21,892 in private institutions, and 8,197 in deemed universities. The NMC has emphasized that this matrix reflects the currently approved seats, and any additional seats sanctioned later will be incorporated into a revised matrix.

**Government Institutions Hold Over 33,000 Seats**


The NMC's latest seat matrix reveals a total of 63,177 PG seats, with 33,088 allocated to government medical colleges, 21,892 to private institutions, and 8,197 to deemed universities. The Commission has noted that applications for new PG courses or requests to increase existing seat numbers, which are currently awaiting approval, are not included in this matrix.   • Telangana: 3,998 seats

The Commission has instructed counseling committees and relevant parties to review the matrix and report any errors or discrepancies to the MARB.
