Overview of JEE Main 2026 Changes

The JEE Main 2026 examination process has officially commenced, introducing several new regulations aimed at enhancing transparency and convenience for candidates. Notably, students will now have the ability to select their preferred exam center within their chosen city.

Choosing an Exam Center

This year, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has made efforts to allow students to select from four cities based on their permanent and current addresses. For instance, a student residing in Uttar Pradesh but currently in Delhi will be provided with a list of cities from both states to choose from. The NTA aims to assign exam centers as close to the selected cities as possible, reducing travel distances for students. Consequently, the number of available exam cities has increased from 219 to 323.

Live Photo Upload Requirement

To combat potential malpractice during the examination, the NTA has introduced a live photo upload requirement. Candidates must now submit both a live photograph and a recently scanned image when completing their application. This change addresses previous issues where outdated photos led to identification challenges. The system will notify students if the uploaded images do not match, emphasizing the need for a recent, clear color photograph.

e-KYC System for Identification

The implementation of the e-KYC system for JEE Main 2026 allows for digital identification through Aadhaar verification. Key details such as name, date of birth, and photograph will be cross-checked with the UIDAI's Central Identity Data Repository. Students must ensure that their Aadhaar information aligns with their Class 10 certificate. Additionally, the NTA has warned against submitting multiple application forms, as this could lead to disciplinary action. Candidates are also advised to accurately provide their email addresses and mobile numbers in the application.

Exam Schedule

The JEE Main 2026 will occur in two phases. The application deadline for the first phase is November 27, with exams scheduled from January 21 to January 30. Results are expected to be announced by February 12. Registration for the second phase will start in the last week of January, with exams taking place between April 1 and April 10. Final results for both phases will be declared by April 20.
