IIT Roorkee Urges JEE Advanced 2026 Candidates to Register for JoSAA Counseling
Concerns Arise Post JEE Advanced 2026 Results
Following the announcement of the JEE Advanced 2026 results, numerous students are grappling with uncertainty. While many candidates have successfully passed the examination, their eligibility is in question due to the ongoing debate surrounding the CBSE's On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and unexpectedly low scores in their Class 12 board exams. In light of these concerns, IIT Roorkee, the organizing body for JEE Advanced 2026, has released a crucial statement for students.
IIT Roorkee's Official Statement
According to a press release from IIT Roorkee, all candidates who have qualified for JEE Advanced 2026 are encouraged to register for the JoSAA 2026 counseling process, irrespective of their Class 12 marks. The institute has urged students not to withdraw from the counseling and to ensure timely registration. This announcement comes amidst ongoing discussions regarding the CBSE Class 12 results and the OSM evaluation method.
Eligibility for Admission
While IIT Roorkee has recommended that all qualified students participate in the counseling, it has emphasized a critical condition. The institute clarified that final admission and seat allocation will only occur if candidates meet the Class 12 eligibility criteria, along with other requirements outlined in the JEE Advanced 2026 Information Brochure. Thus, even if a student is assigned a seat during JoSAA counseling, their admission will not be confirmed if they do not satisfy the necessary Class 12 percentage or other eligibility conditions.
Importance of the Announcement
This year, a significant number of students have raised concerns about CBSE's new on-screen marking system, claiming they received lower marks than anticipated. Many have requested scanned copies of their answer sheets, and a re-evaluation process is currently in progress. Consequently, numerous students preparing for engineering admissions feared they would be unable to participate in JoSAA counseling due to their low Class 12 scores. IIT Roorkee's recent announcement has provided immediate reassurance, allowing these students to engage in the counseling process.
Top Performers in JEE Advanced 2026
This year, Shubham Kumar from the IIT Delhi zone achieved the All India Rank 1 in JEE Advanced 2026, scoring 330 out of 360 marks, the highest score of the year. Among female candidates, Aarohi Deshpande, also from the IIT Delhi zone, emerged as the top scorer with 280 out of 360 marks, securing the 77th rank in the Common Rank List (CRL).
Advice for Candidates
Experts recommend that students who have qualified for JEE Advanced should not panic about their Class 12 marks. Those who have not yet registered for JoSAA counseling must ensure they do so within the designated timeframe. Additionally, students with concerns regarding their board results can utilize CBSE's re-evaluation and marks verification processes. For now, IIT Roorkee's message is clear: all qualified students should participate in JoSAA counseling, as eligibility will be confirmed later.
