IIT Admission Process for 2026: Key Dates and Orientation Details

IIT Admission 2026 Overview



The academic year for first-year B.Tech students at all 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) is scheduled to commence on July 20. The admission process for the 2026-27 academic year will wrap up in the third week of July. Following this, a week-long orientation program will be organized at the IIT campuses.


Orientation Program Details

This orientation will facilitate interactions among students, faculty, and the campus community. It aims to ease the transition for students, helping them acclimatize to campus life and address feelings of anxiety or loneliness that may arise from being away from home. Academic classes will begin after this orientation.


Commencement of Classes

According to Professor V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, the admission process will conclude on July 23 and 24, marking the official start of the new academic session for first-year B.Tech students. An induction program will follow the orientation, leading into the regular class schedule.


At IIT BHU, the academic session will kick off on July 22, with registration activities including hostel assignments and biometric verification taking place from July 27 to 30. The orientation is set for July 30, followed by an induction program from July 30 to August 5, with classes starting on August 7.


IIT Delhi will also begin its reporting on July 22, followed by orientation and the start of classes. Meanwhile, IIT Jodhpur's new session is set to begin on July 27. Professor Diganta Goswami, Dean of Academic Affairs at IIT Guwahati, confirmed that their new session will start on July 20.
