IIIT Ranchi's Engagement with State Leadership
On Thursday, Prof. Rajiv Srivastava, the Director of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Ranchi, visited the residence of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the institute's ongoing projects, future plans, and overall direction.
During the discussion, Prof. Srivastava provided insights into the academic and research initiatives at IIIT Ranchi, highlighting significant projects and future strategies. He emphasized the institute's status as a national asset and its commitment to addressing the evolving needs of society and the nation. In response, CM Hemant Soren praised the institute's contributions and promised comprehensive support for its development.
Background of IIIT Ranchi
Established in 2016 through an Act of Parliament, IIIT Ranchi is a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Education, the Jharkhand Government, and industry partners such as CCL, TTL, and TCS.
Currently, the institute operates from a temporary campus located at ARTTC, BSNL in Ranchi, with hostel and residential facilities available at both the BSNL campus and Khelgaon Housing Complex. The construction of a permanent campus in Sanga village, Kanke block, is nearing completion.
Academic Programs Offered
IIIT Ranchi has a capacity of 320 seats for its B.Tech program each year, with admissions conducted through JEE Main and its counseling process. The institute offers five B.Tech specializations:
- Computer Science and Engineering
- Electronics and Communication Engineering
- Computer Science (Specialization: AI and Data Science)
- Electronics and Communication (Specialization: IoT and Embedded Systems)
- Math and Computing
Postgraduate and Research Opportunities
In addition to the undergraduate programs, IIIT Ranchi provides M.Tech degrees in AI and Data Science, IoT and Embedded Systems, as well as PhD programs. These courses are available in both full-time and part-time formats. Collaborating with IIT Patna, the institute also offers MBA and MCA courses in a hybrid format, catering to both students and working professionals across the nation.
Prof. Srivastava noted that the placement statistics for the institute are on an upward trend, with numerous students securing positions in esteemed companies, thereby enhancing the institute's reputation.
