GATE 2027 Registration: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has officially started the registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. Interested and eligible candidates can apply by visiting the official website. The application period commenced on September 2, 2026.


Application Timeline

The registration for GATE 2027 will be open without any late fee until September 27, 2026. Candidates who miss this deadline can still submit their applications by paying a late fee until October 5. Additionally, there will be a correction window available from October 14 to October 21.


Exam Schedule and Important Dates

GATE 2027 is scheduled to take place on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21, 2027. The notification for city allotment is anticipated on January 4, while the date for the release of admit cards is yet to be announced. Results for GATE 2027 are expected to be declared on March 19, 2027.


New Paper on Robotics and Automation

Robotics and Automation Paper Included in GATE 2027: This year, GATE will introduce a new paper focused on Robotics and Automation (RA), bringing the total number of test papers to 30. IIT Madras has also revised the syllabus for several GATE 2027 papers, including updates to the Biotechnology paper and changes to the sectional codes for Textile Engineering and Fibre Science, Engineering Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Life Sciences. Candidates can choose to appear for one or two test papers, but those opting for two must select from the combinations approved by the exam authorities.


Eligibility Criteria for GATE 2027

GATE 2027 Eligibility:


Candidates who are in their third year or higher of an undergraduate program, as well as those who have completed a government-recognized degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities, are eligible to apply. Additionally, candidates with a qualifying degree from institutions outside India may also apply, subject to the specified conditions. For Indian citizens, registration through DigiLocker is mandatory. IIT Madras recommends that candidates verify and update their DigiLocker accounts before starting the GATE 2027 application process.
