Delhi Teachers Demand Rescheduling of 11th Grade Physical Education Exam

The Delhi State Teachers' Association has raised concerns regarding the scheduling of the 11th-grade Physical Education exam, requesting a change from October 31st to October 30th. This demand stems from the fact that October 31st is a significant day for many teachers due to retirements. The GSTA argues that holding exams on such an important day is impractical and undermines the dignity of the teaching profession. The exam was initially set for October 18th but was postponed due to transportation issues. The situation continues to develop as the association awaits a response from the Directorate of Education.

Controversy Surrounds Physical Education Exam Date

The upcoming Physical Education exam for 11th-grade students in Delhi is stirring significant discussion. The Delhi State Teachers' Association (GSTA) has formally requested that the exam be moved from October 31st to October 30th. This request was communicated through a letter sent to the Directorate of Education and the Education Minister, urging a prompt response and an updated notification.

The reason behind this request stems from the exam's previous scheduling. Initially set for October 18th, it was postponed amid concerns of a potential leak. The Delhi government attributed the delay to transportation issues, subsequently rescheduling the exam for October 31st.

Reasons for the Rescheduling Request

Ajay Veer Yadav, General Secretary of the GSTA, has articulated the union's concerns in his letter, emphasizing that the decision to hold the exam on October 31st fails to consider several critical factors. He argues that this date coincides with the last working day of the month, a particularly hectic time when many teachers retire from the Delhi Education Department.

Yadav highlighted the emotional significance of retirement day for teachers, which is often celebrated with family and colleagues. He believes that conducting exams on such an important day undermines the dignity of the teaching profession.

In light of these considerations, the GSTA is advocating for the exam to be rescheduled to October 30th, allowing teachers to honor their retirement celebrations without the added pressure of examinations.
