The JEE Main 2026 examination has sparked significant debate, particularly concerning the answer key for the Chemistry section from the exam conducted on April 5 (Shift 2). This issue has become a focal point of concern among students and educators alike.
As one of the most crucial engineering entrance exams in India, JEE Main sees countless students invest years of preparation to gain admission to esteemed institutions. Therefore, any discrepancies related to the exam can lead to heightened anxiety among candidates.
The controversy surrounding the Chemistry answer key has led numerous students to voice their concerns, claiming that inaccuracies could negatively impact their scores. This situation quickly gained traction on social media, where students, parents, and educators expressed their frustrations.
NTA's Response to the Controversy
In light of the complaints, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has acknowledged the issue and is currently investigating the discrepancies reported in the Chemistry paper. The NTA has urged students not to pay any fees to contest the answer key until an official statement is released. They expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the students.
The students' dissatisfaction was prominently displayed on social media platforms, with many questioning the NTA's procedures and demanding the prompt release of an accurate answer key. Some students emphasized that even minor errors could significantly affect their future opportunities, as every mark is crucial in a competitive exam like JEE.
Provisional Answer Key Release and Examination Details
The provisional answer key for JEE Main Session 2 (Paper 1 – BE/BTech) was made available on April 11, 2026. Students were also given the chance to review their response sheets and submit objections regarding the answer key through the official website.
The JEE Main 2026 Session 2 was conducted from April 2 to April 8, utilizing a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format across 566 centers in India and 14 international locations. Approximately 11.23 lakh candidates participated in this examination.
Typically, students are required to pay ₹200 per question to challenge the provisional answer key. However, for the Chemistry paper from Shift 2 on April 5, the NTA has advised students to refrain from making any payments until further notice. The final answer key is expected to be released on April 20, 2026, after addressing all objections. Any identified errors will be corrected, and final scores will be adjusted accordingly.
