CBSE New Syllabus: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced an updated syllabus for Class 9, which was announced at an event on Thursday. This new syllabus has been developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in alignment with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023. The syllabus is structured into three main sections, with some chapters added and others removed.

Structure of the Class 9 Syllabus
The Class 9 syllabus is organized into three sections: Language Core, Core Subjects, and Holistic and Vocational Education. While the subjects remain consistent, the specific chapters and topics have been updated.
1. Language Core
This section includes English (utilizing the 'Kaveri' textbook), Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, and various Modern Indian Languages such as Tamil and Bengali.
2. Core Subjects
The second section encompasses essential academic subjects, including Mathematics (available in both Standard and Advanced levels), Science, and Social Science (covering History, Geography, and Economics).
3. Holistic and Vocational Education
This section features Art Education, Physical Education, Vocational Studies, and Life Skills.
Subject-Specific Changes
The Class 9 syllabus has seen substantial revisions, with various subjects undergoing significant changes. Here’s a breakdown of the updates:
Mathematics
The updated Class 9 Mathematics syllabus now includes 15 to 16 chapters, an increase from the previous 12. New topics such as Arithmetic Progression, Geometric Progression, Pairs of Linear Equations, Areas Related to Circles, and an Introduction to Statistics have been added.
Science
The Science syllabus will now feature 11 to 12 chapters. New topics in Biology include Cells, Tissues, Reproduction, and Diversity. In Chemistry, students will learn about Separation of Mixtures, Structure of the Atom, and Atoms & Molecules, while the chapter on ‘Matter Around Us’ has been removed. The Physics/Earth Science curriculum will cover Motion, Earth as a System, and Simple Machines, with the chapter on Gravity being eliminated. The Science curriculum will span over 100 teaching periods.
Social Science
The Social Science textbook has seen the removal of four chapters, reducing the total from 20 to 16. New topics include the Harappan Civilization, Plate Tectonics, Interior of the Earth, Ocean Biomes, and practical topics in Economics such as Budgeting.
English
The English syllabus will now utilize a new textbook titled ‘Kaveri’, replacing the previous ‘Beehive’ and ‘Moments’. The Grammar section will cover Determiners, Tenses, Modals, Reported Speech, and Clauses, while the Writing section will focus on Critical Thinking, Research, and Persuasive Essays.
Inclusion of Chapters from Higher Classes
Several chapters from Classes 10 and 11 have been integrated into the Class 9 syllabus. This new curriculum emphasizes skill development over rote memorization, which will also influence the examination format.
