CBSE Board Exam Schedule Update for 2027: Practical Exams and Anticipated Dates

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is expected to announce the 2027 board examination dates soon, while practical exams are set to conclude by December. With many students awaiting their schedules, the board may start exams earlier than last year, potentially in February. Additionally, the continuation of the two-board examination policy and the controversial On-Screen Marking system for Class 12 evaluations are noteworthy updates. Stay tuned for more details as they unfold.

Overview of CBSE Board Examination Schedule

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has yet to confirm the dates for the 2027 board examinations, but the final timetable is expected to be released soon. Meanwhile, the schedule for practical exams and internal assessments has been made public. With practical exams wrapping up earlier this year, it is likely that the board exams will also commence sooner than usual. Many students are eagerly waiting for their schedules, with a key concern being the need for sufficient intervals between major subjects to facilitate effective preparation and revision.

Practical Examination Schedule

When are the practical examinations?

This year, the CBSE aims to complete all practical examinations by December. According to the Board's announcement, schools located in hilly and colder regions will conduct practical exams from November 9 to December 19, 2026. For other schools, practical exams and internal assessments will start on January 1, 2027. The specific dates for regular schools will be revealed along with the main examination timetable.

Potential Early Start for Board Examinations

Examinations may begin earlier

Although the CBSE has not yet published the date sheet by the first week of November, it is anticipated that the examinations could wrap up earlier than last year. Factors such as the upcoming UP Assembly elections suggest that the board exams might be completed by March. Last year, the CBSE board exams commenced on February 17; this year, they could potentially start in the first week of February or shortly thereafter.

Changes in Examination Policy

Two board examinations and OSM

Last year, the CBSE implemented a policy allowing for two board examinations. This included a second board exam for Class 10 students who either failed or wanted to improve their scores. This policy will continue this year. Additionally, an 'On-Screen Marking' (OSM) system was introduced for evaluating Class 12 answer sheets, which sparked considerable controversy due to identified irregularities. It remains uncertain whether this system will be utilized again this year.
