Bihar Public Service Commission Announces 71st Preliminary Exam Results

Overview of the 71st Preliminary Examination Results



The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has officially announced the results for the 71st Preliminary Examination, revealing that 13,368 candidates have successfully passed. Furthermore, an additional 893 candidates qualified for the role of Financial Administrative Officer, resulting in a cumulative total of 14,261 successful candidates.


Examination Statistics

According to BPSC Examination Controller Rajesh Kumar Singh, around 4.71 lakh candidates registered for the examination. Out of these, approximately 3.57 lakh candidates downloaded their admit cards, and about 3.16 lakh candidates actually appeared for the test. The examination took place at 912 centers across Bihar, with a participation rate of 64.3%. Following these results, recruitment will proceed for 1,298 available positions.


Cut-Off Marks for Various Categories

The cut-off marks have been set as follows:



  • General Category: 88 points

  • Economically Weaker Sections: 82.33 points

  • Scheduled Castes: 72 points

  • Scheduled Tribes: 71.33 points

  • Extremely Backward Classes: 81 points

  • Backward Classes: 84 points


Notably, 211 candidates achieved scores exceeding 100 points.


Details on the Main Examination

Following the announcement of the preliminary results, the BPSC will conduct the main examination, although the date has yet to be confirmed. This examination will consist of three subjects, including a language paper (General Hindi) worth 100 marks, which is mandatory but will not contribute to the final score. Candidates must secure at least 30 marks in this paper for their other papers to be evaluated.


The main examination will also include two General Studies papers (GS 1 and GS 2), each carrying 300 marks, and an Optional Subject paper, also worth 300 marks. All papers will consist of long-answer questions, with each subject examination lasting three hours.
