Vidya Devi gave a new direction to girls education in Jaipur, died after prolonged illness
Rani Vidya Devi Jaisingh of the former royal family of Jaipur breathed her last on Friday evening. She was battling ovarian cancer for the last two years. Dharmendra Kanwar, managing trustee of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh Benevolent Trust and author of Rambagh, said, "I was first introduced to him by former Rajmata Gayatri Devi. Rajmata often used to say that it is good that Vidya has taken the responsibility of handling MGD.
After my departure, she will surely take our dream of girls education to new heights. She was from Jubbal in Himachal. Her father Rajkumar Rajendra Singh went to Cooch Behar when Rajmata was 10 years old. He took care of Rajmata's mother and brother. Rani Vidya Devi received her education from Loreto Convent Darjeeling, Calcutta University and Delhi School of Economics. He had worked with the Tea Board of India.
He also represented India at the Trade Fairs of Trinidad and New York. In addition P. Worked with former Bengal CM Siddhartha Shankar Ray. She was the Patron of FICCI Ladies Organization. I had the opportunity to work with her as the Managing Trustee for the Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh Benevolent Trust, of which she was the chairperson. She was the director of Rambagh Hotel.
She was also the chairperson of MGD and SMS School but she resigned from both the posts after her illness. I have always seen him approach people softly and warmly. She was very simple, gentle and soft spoken. Along with Hindi, he had an amazing command over Bengali, French, Nepali, Spanish and English languages. When I was writing my book on Rambagh, he told those stories related to Rambagh which made the book interesting.
Rani Vidya Devi's closest friend Nirmala Rarelji told that her biggest feature was her non-political nature, due to which people could easily speak to her. She stood firm in her principles. The management of MGD Girls School said that she was born on 3 October 1942. She was married in 1983 to former Maharaja Jai Singh, son of Maharaja Sawai Mansingh II.
Gayatri Devi was very fond of him. She would often praise him saying that Vidya's calm nature, sensitivity and calmness would make her more influential than me. Rani Vidya became Chairperson of the Executive Committee of MGD in 1989 and President of the Board of Governors in 2009.
