UP: Medical Colleges To Be Set Up In Mau And Shamli, Nursing, Paramedical College Ratings Released
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh unveiled plans to establish two new medical institutions through public-private partnerships (PPP). He confirmed the completion of Memorandums of Understanding for these medical facilities. The proposed medical colleges will be situated in separate districts of Uttar Pradesh: one in Mau district in eastern UP and the other in Shamli district in western UP. Adityanath described this development as a realization of a long-held dream, highlighting that Shamli and Mau districts were previously known for migration and mafia involvement, respectively.
The Gyan Chetna Educational Society and Rajiv Samajik Shiksha Sewa Sansthan will be responsible for establishing the private medical colleges in Shamli and Mau districts, respectively. According to the agreement, these partners will construct a medical college with a minimum capacity of 100 students. Once operational, these institutions will annually contribute at least 200 doctors to the healthcare sector and generate around 1,300 direct jobs, as stated in the official press release. CM Adityanath celebrated this as a monumental day for medical education, revealing that an additional eight institutions have obtained the mentor certificate through the "mentor-mentee" project. This initiative fosters relationships between new and established nursing colleges to elevate educational standards.
CM Adityanath highlighted the significant progress his administration has achieved in the field of medical education. He noted that Uttar Pradesh had only 12 medical colleges prior to 2017, but following the implementation of the prime minister's "one district, one medical college" proposal, there are now 45 medical colleges spread across all districts. Furthermore, Adityanath revealed that 16 medical colleges are currently under construction in the state, with 14 being built by the government and the other two through the PPP approach.
In line with Mission Niramaya, CM Adityanath also announced the Quality Control of India (QCI) ratings for the state's 294 paramedical institutes and 383 nursing colleges. Uttar Pradesh is the first state to have its nursing and paramedical institutes rated. Mission Niramaya, introduced at the end of the previous year, aims to enhance paramedical and nursing education and training, underscoring the government's commitment to improving the healthcare sector.
