Nonetheless, several trusts and foundations offer scholarships and fellowships to Indian students. One such prestigious fellowship is the Fulbright-Nehru Master's Fellowship.

The Fulbright-Nehru Master's Fellowship is provided by the United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF). This fellowship is designed for Indian students pursuing master's degrees in fields such as arts and cultural management, economics, environmental science/studies, higher education administration, international affairs, international legal studies, and public administration. The duration of the fellowship is one to two years.

Eligibility Criteria for Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship

  • A graduation degree equivalent to the American education system with at least 55% marks.
  • Three years of work experience in the field of study.
  • No prior enrollment in any other U.S. degree program or current enrollment in an American degree program.

Fellowship Coverage

Recipients of the Fulbright-Nehru Master's Fellowship receive coverage for tuition fees, an economy class air ticket for the journey, books, and living expenses in the U.S.

Application Period

Selection Process

After submitting applications, candidates undergo a review process. Shortlisted candidates are then interviewed, followed by required tests such as TOEFL and GRE. Successful candidates proceed to the recommendation stage, where their applications are sent to the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board for placement and approval. Selected candidates are placed by the Institute of International Education (IIE), the implementing agency for the fellowship.
