A teenager from Lucknow was apprehended by the Noida Police on Friday for allegedly sending an email to a media house, threatening to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The 16-year-old boy, who hails from Bihar, was later produced in a juvenile court and granted bail since the charges invoked in the case were bailable, according to an official.

An FIR was lodged at the Sector 20 police station in connection with the case on April 5 after a media house representative approached the police with a complaint, stating they had received an email threatening to assassinate the prime minister and the Uttar Pradesh chief minister. The FIR was lodged under sections of the Indian Penal Code, including criminal intimidation and acts likely to cause fear or alarm to the public, as well as provisions of the Information Technology Act.

The police investigated the matter and used technical teams to trace the sender of the email. The sender was traced and found to be a schoolboy who had just completed Class 11 and would be starting Class 12 in the upcoming session. The teenager was picked up from the Chinhat area of Lucknow and brought to Noida for questioning.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Noida) Rajneesh Verma, the investigation into the case is ongoing.
