RTE: This time around two lakh applications were received, lowest in five years
Under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, in the session 2021-22, about two lakh 84 thousand seats will be available in private schools of the state. For this, one lakh 98 thousand 643 applications have been made, out of which till now the applications of one lakh 72 thousand 209 children have been verified. This number of applications is the lowest compared to the last five years. However, due to the Corona crisis last year, admissions could not take place in schools. It should be noted that Monday is the last day for verification of applications. After this, schools will be allotted to eligible children through lottery on July 16.
Earlier in 2019, about 2.5 lakh applications were made and about two lakh three thousand 447 children had taken admission. This year, seats in private schools have also been kept less, while there are 4.5 lakh seats in 26 thousand private schools in the state. Let us tell you that every year the number of children taking admission under RTE is decreasing. This year there have been fewer applications according to seats in big cities. These applications are also lagging behind in verification, while in smaller cities the application as well as verification has exceeded 90 per cent.
