Board of Secondary Education Rajasthan

India gained Independence in 1947. After some time, a need was felt in the state of Rajasthan for a separate education board which will meet the needs of the young generation. This would be the first education board of the state. BSER was set up on 4th December 1957 and constituted under the Rajasthan Secondary Education Act 1957.

BSER is one of the oldest education boards of India. The Oldest Board in India is Tamil Nadu Board of Secondary Education which was established in 1911. The famous Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) was formed in 1962. BSER is older than that! There are currently more than 50 operational boards of education in India and there are some foreign boards as well.

BSER is a very popular board in Rajasthan. Its data reveals that more than 1,80,000 students were registered for Class 12 Science and 84,244 for Class 12 Commerce examinations. The result and the percentage obtained is valid all over the world and a student can apply all over Indian to any college of his choice through the degree of BSER without any discrimination.

Medium of Language of the BSER

The medium of the language of the Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan is in Hindi and English. There is no native language of Rajasthan that is given the distinction of official Language of India. Hence, Hindi and English are the only official language of the state and the students of 12th can give this exam in any of the two languages.

The headquarters of the BSER is Ajmer. The main personnel of the board sit in Ajmer and administer the activities of the board. The head of the board includes Chairman BL Chaudhry and Administrator Meghna Chaudhry who is an IAS officer. Any problem relating to the Board Administration can be solved here but there are other centers in every district too.

Ajmer is not only the headquarters of BSER. It is also the headquarters of CBSE (Rajasthan Zone), RPSC (Raj. Public Service Commission), Raj. Revenue Board etc.

Transparency in Results of the Board

BSER has made the results as transparent as possible. In 2011, a verdict passed by the Supreme Court made it compulsory to show the photocopy of the mark sheet of the students when demanded under the RTI.

Another decision also ruled in favor of the student when RBSE has decided that no student more than 20 years of age cannot appear for 10th class exam. There is currently no barrier of age to appear in  the exams.

The Aim of Board

The Aim of Board

Like any other board of India, the aim of BSER is to promote and educate the majority of people of Rajasthan to at least secondary level. The Population of Rajasthan is approximately 6.8 crore and the literacy rate is 68%. The National Literacy Rate is 74.04% and state is even behind that. The Maximum literacy rate is in the state of Kerala i.e., 93%.

High Dropout rates and low pass percentages

The main challenge for the board is to give a good result. In the year 2014, it was reported that a large number of the students cannot complete their education and could not sit in exams because of high dropout rates. The drop out rates of Girls is more than the number of boys. BSER also has a low success rate compared to other boards. A large number of persons are not lucky to clear the 12th Examinations.

Shiv Charan Yadav

Shiv Charan Yadav

Shiv Charan Yadav is an 81-year old man from the Alwar District. He became a national news when he failed in his 10th exam in Rajasthan Board in his 47th attempt! The 81-year-old man is still determined to pass the exam and has tried again this year. In 2014, he failed in all the subjects but in 2015, he managed to pass in one.

Yadav scored 34 marks in his social science exam. His performance in the other subjects was: Hindi-3, English-0, mathematics-9, and Sanskrit-7. Rajasthan Board is difficult but 47th attempt is a big deal. Salute to the man and his zeal to get a 10th degree!
