No Plans to Conduct NEET UG Twice a Year, ‘Not Feasible’: NMC Tells AISU
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has responded to the All India Student's Union (AISU) regarding the proposal of conducting the NEET UG exam twice a year. In a letter, the NMC stated that conducting the exam twice is not feasible and clarified that they have no plans for such an arrangement. The commission highlighted the significant financial and resource implications of holding the single-largest medical test twice, placing an unfair burden on the government's finances.
Furthermore, the NMC mentioned that all MBBS seats were successfully filled during the single counselling session, eliminating the need for conducting the NEET UG exam twice. However, the commission informed NEET candidates that they are now free to appear in the exam next year as the upper age criteria have been removed.
Earlier, on May 10, the AISU had written to the NMC, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), and the Education Ministry, requesting the NEET UG exam to be held twice a year. They argued that multiple attempts would provide students with sufficient time and opportunities to prepare for the exam. The AISU expressed disappointment with the NMC's response, citing financial challenges and the burden on government resources.
The association believes that conducting the exam twice would increase admission chances, preserve applicants' academic year, and provide more preparation opportunities. However, the NMC's decision remains unchanged.
In other news, the official schedule for the NEET UG 2023 counselling process will be announced soon. Candidates are advised to prepare their documents in advance for the counselling process. These essential documents include the NEET UG 2023 scorecard, class 10 and 12 mark sheets and pass certificates, admit card, migration certificate, medical fitness certificate, a valid government photo ID card, and category certificate if applicable.
