The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the rescheduling of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) for 1,563 candidates who were awarded grace marks in the June 16 exam. This decision comes amidst controversies surrounding the administration of the exam and allegations of irregularities.

Key Points:

  • Rescheduling Details:
The rescheduled NEET-UG exam for 1,563 candidates will take place this Sunday, June 23, at seven centres across the country. Six new centres have been assigned, with one centre in Chandigarh remaining unchanged.

  • Reason for Rescheduling:
Candidates from six centres, including Meghalaya, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and Gujarat, were awarded grace marks due to administrative issues such as wrong distribution of question papers and torn OMR sheets. The decision to reschedule aims to ensure fairness and provide affected candidates with another opportunity to take the exam.

  • Controversies and Legal Challenges:
Controversy erupted after the NEET-UG results were announced on June 4, with allegations of inflated marks and irregularities from various centres. This led to protests and legal challenges, with candidates and parents raising concerns about the integrity of the examination process.

  • Court Proceedings:
The matter was taken to the Supreme Court, which subsequently refused to postpone the NEET-UG counselling scheduled to begin on July 6. The court will further hear pleas regarding the issue on July 8.

  • Candidate Choice:
Candidates awarded grace marks were given the option to either appear for the re-test on June 23 or retain their original scores without the grace marks. Admit cards have been issued to all affected candidates, and their participation in the rescheduled exam will be known on the day of the exam.
