In the realm of individuals forsaking their private careers to pursue the UPSC dream, we bring you a truly extraordinary story today. Meet Major Abhinandan Singh, a former army officer who transitioned to a career in civil service. Hailing from Akhnoor in Jammu, Major Abhinandan's journey is not only inspiring but also a testament to his resilience and determination. Let's delve into his remarkable transformation.

Early Life and Education

Major Abhinandan Singh's background is marked by a strong educational foundation. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering, setting the stage for an illustrious future. His tryst with the armed forces began when the 19th Services Selection Board (SSB) chose him right from college.

In 2014, he took the plunge into the Indian Army's Signal Corps, embarking on a rigorous one-year training program.

A Turn of Fate

Major Abhinandan's initial posting took him to Tezpur, Assam, where he served on the Indo-China border. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Amritsar unit, a common occurrence for young army officers. During one of these transitions, an unexpected incident changed the course of his life. While playing basketball during a training session, he suffered an ankle injury. Unfortunately, the timing didn't allow for the necessary medical assessment and treatment before the training course's conclusion.

The injury left him in a precarious state, impairing his ability to run effectively. Consequently, Major Abhinandan Singh was advised to take a two-year break, signaling a significant turning point in his life.

Transition to Civil Services

With a heavy heart, Abhinandan realized that continuing a career in defense was no longer a viable option. In 2019, he set his sights on an entirely new endeavor – the UPSC Civil Services Examination. His first attempt in 2021 at cracking the UPSC Prelims proved to be a challenging one, as he did not clear the initial hurdle. But Major Abhinandan didn't let this deter him.

He revisited his study materials, going over his notes meticulously, and decided to choose philosophy as his optional subject. The determination to persevere in the face of setbacks was deeply ingrained in him.

In 2022, Major Abhinandan Singh took his second shot at the UPSC exams, and this time, his dedication and hard work paid off. He secured an impressive rank of 749, marking a triumphant entry into the world of civil service.
