Sharan Prakash Patil, Karnataka's Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development, has raised serious concerns regarding the NEET-UG 2024 examination, labeling it a significant 'scam' orchestrated by the Central government. Patil has called for a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged irregularities surrounding the examination.

Key Points:

  • Allegations of Irregularities:
About 24 lakh aspirants took the NEET exam on May 5 for medical college admissions. However, the results, announced prematurely on June 5, were tarnished by accusations of paper leaks and the granting of grace marks to over 1,500 candidates.

  • Demand for CBI Probe:
Speaking in Raichur, Minister Patil emphasized the need for a CBI investigation into the matter, echoing similar demands made by the Tamil Nadu government. He expressed disappointment with the Union Education Minister's handling of the situation, urging swift action and accountability.

  • Concerns Over Central Government's Response:
Patil criticized the Central government's apparent indifference towards the NEET controversy, despite widespread protests by students and parents nationwide. He raised doubts about the government's intentions and urged transparency in addressing the issue.

  • Legal Limitations:
While acknowledging the limitations faced by the state government in challenging NEET due to legal constraints, Patil cited a Supreme Court order mandating the conduct of the examination. Despite these restrictions, he emphasized the need for accountability and justice for the affected students.
