The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has invited applications for its inaugural international campus, the Zanzibar campus. Starting from October 2023, the campus offers academic programs including a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Data Science and AI, and a two-year Master of Technology degree in Data Science and AI. These programs are open to students of all nationalities, including Indian students. Interested candidates can apply until August 5 through the official website zanzibar.iitm.ac.in.

For aspiring students seeking financial assistance, the official press release states that deserving and meritorious students will have access to financial aid opportunities. Detailed information about fees, accommodation, living costs, sample question papers, and other relevant details can be found on the website.

The curriculum for the data science and artificial intelligence programs is comprehensive, and students will have exciting opportunities during their course of study. This includes the possibility of participating in study abroad or semester exchange programs with partner institutions in the UK, Australia, and other countries. Additionally, students can pursue internships with various relevant companies and fulfill some course requirements at the main IIT Madras campus in Chennai, India.

The admission process for these programs involves a screening test that covers mathematics, science, English, and analytical ability. Interviews with faculty members will also be conducted as part of the selection process. Eligibility criteria for the Bachelor of Science program require candidates to have cleared class 12, Form VI, or an equivalent qualification within the past three years. For the Master of Technology program, candidates with a four-year undergraduate degree in any engineering or science discipline may apply.

Prof. Preeti Aghalayam, the director-in-charge of the Zanzibar campus, IIT Madras, will lead the admission process. She is the first-ever woman to hold such a position in an IIT. She had previously mentioned that the screening test for the admission process will be distinct from the JEE Advanced and will focus on analytical ability and English skills.
