The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D) has introduced a new interdisciplinary Master of Technology (MTech) program in robotics, with an intake of 25 students. The program is designed to train students in creating innovative and intelligent products and systems to tackle the challenges of developing robotics platforms and applications, and will begin its first batch in the academic year 2023-24. Interested applicants can apply for the program through the official website, iitd.ac.in, until March 30, 2023, and must have a valid GATE score to be eligible for the program. After this, they will need to pass the programming test and interview to secure a seat.

The Master of Technology in Robotics program is jointly offered by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the Yardi School of Artificial Intelligence in association with the Center of Excellence on Biologically Inspired Robots and Drones (CoE-BIRD). It emphasizes experiential learning, backed by a strong theoretical foundation, and offers four specializations: Collaborative Robotics, Industrial Robotics, Rehabilitation and Medical Robotics, and Autonomous and Intelligent Vehicles.

According to Prof. Subodh Kumar, a faculty member at the Department of Computer Science & Engineering and the Coordinator of CoE-BIRD, "There is a clear scarcity of personnel trained in the area of robotic technologies, whereas the robotics-centered automation industry has been growing at tremendous speed internationally as well as in India. This is a clear gap that this newly launched M.Tech. program in Robotics by the institute will help bridge."
