C Vanmathi, hailing from the Erode district of Tamil Nadu, faced a childhood filled with financial hardships. Her father worked as a cab driver, and making ends meet was a constant struggle. Despite their modest income, Vanmathi's parents never compromised on her education. They provided her with books and essential resources, ensuring that her studies continued without interruption.

After completing her 12th-grade education, Vanmathi faced societal pressure to get married. However, her parents understood the importance of education in shaping their children's future and prioritized it over societal norms. They supported her decision to pursue further studies. Following her graduation, Vanmathi pursued post-graduation in Computer Applications.

Towards the IAS Dream

Inspired by a Television Serial

Vanmathi's home was influenced by the presence of a female district collector, who was highly respected by the community. Witnessing this, she developed a strong aspiration to become an IAS officer. Her determination was further fueled when she watched a television serial, "Ganga Yamuna Saraswathi," featuring a lead actress portraying an IAS officer. This served as a profound source of inspiration. Consequently, Vanmathi achieved an impressive 152nd rank in the UPSC examination in 2015.
