In the only Patna Dental College of the state government, the posts of faculty at all levels from the principal have become vacant. The situation has come so far that only the doctor working at the most junior level in the college, ie the tutor, has been made the principal of the college.
Out of 113 academic cadre posts in this college, 86 posts are vacant. Due to the vacancy of the post of teachers, the treatment in the hospital and the education of the students of BDS and MDS have started to appear.
In Patna Tender College Hospital, OPD and teaching-training work of 11 departments. It consists of the Department of Prosthetic, Department of Oral Surgery, Department of Oral Pathology, Department of Conservative, Department of Orthodania, Department of Periododynia, Department of Dental Hygiene, Department of Pedodania, Department of Oral Medicine and Department of Community Dentistry.
In this college, 100 students from NEET are admitted in BDS course, while there are 18 seats in nine post graduate courses. Instead of nine courses in post graduate, only one course is running in prosthetic.
There is no nomination in the remaining eight departments. Now prosthetic teachers have also retired, due to which this course can also be closed. Due to shortage of doctors, hospital and academic work has been completely affected.
Enrollment has been banned by the Dental Council of India (DCI) in 2015 due to lack of faculty at Patna Dental College Hospital. At present, 113 posts are approved in this college. Out of these 86 posts of faculty are vacant.
18 posts of professor level are approved, in which there is no regular professor, while five professors are working on contract. A total of 33 posts of readers are approved in the college, out of which there is no regular reader, while seven are employed on contract and 26 posts are vacant.
Similarly, a total of 53 posts of lecturers are approved, of which there is no regular one, while eight are employed on contract and 47 posts are vacant. Similarly, there are 36 posts of tutor, out of which one is regular and six are on contract and 29 posts are vacant.
The college has not been inspected by DCI since 2017. Recognition was reinstated due to former Principal of the college Dr DK Singh being a DCI member. If the DCI is inspected this year in the face of shortage of teachers, there may be a danger of recognition.
