Delhi Government Conducts Survey On Social, Emotional Skills Of Students

According to an official circular, the Delhi government is currently conducting a survey on the social and emotional skills of teenage students in 75 state-run schools in the city. The survey started on Thursday and will end on May 6. Students between the ages of 15 years and three months and 16 years and two months (as of April 12) are being surveyed by NGO Dream a Dream through data collection by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The circular mandates that the concerned schools must nominate a teacher as coordinator and cooperate with the NGO. However, foreign funding for the project must be approved by the Department of Education (DoE) and follow guidelines issued by the government of India. The privacy of students and parents should not be affected during the project.

Officials stated that this survey is among the first international efforts to develop a comprehensive set of metrics for social and emotional skills that will aid in improving the development and well-being of young people. The goal of this assessment is to gather empirical evidence on students' social and emotional skills and their relevance to various life outcomes, providing robust and reliable insights. The survey will target students (15 years old), teachers, principals, and parents.

An official added that the main study is scheduled to be conducted in April-May 2023, following last year's field trial in May 2022, in line with international timelines for the study.
