Changing Uniforms, Changing Lives: UP Government's Initiative for Safer School Environments

In a proactive effort to combat the spread of communicable diseases, including Dengue, Malaria, and Chikungunya, the Uttar Pradesh government has implemented new guidelines for schools across the state. Effective immediately, students attending council schools in Uttar Pradesh are required to wear full shirts and trousers as part of their school uniforms. This mandate aims to minimize the risk of disease transmission among students.

Enforcing the Dress Code

To ensure compliance with this directive, the government has issued a circular to all basic education officers in every district. These officers are tasked with overseeing the implementation of the new uniform policy within their respective districts. Furthermore, each school will appoint a designated teacher as a nodal officer responsible for monitoring and enforcing the dress code.

On-Site Testing for Symptomatic Students

The decision to modify the dress code aligns with a recent increase in communicable disease cases, particularly Dengue, Chikungunya, and Malaria. These directives were issued by the Department of Education under the guidance of Dr. Mahendra Dev, the Director of Education. As part of the preventive measures, schools will arrange on-site testing by a doctor for students displaying symptoms such as fever or related ailments.

Preventing Water Logging and Ensuring Hygiene

Dengue and Malaria outbreaks are often associated with water logging and poor sanitation. To address this, the government has instructed relevant departments to take steps to prevent water accumulation within or around school premises. Additionally, schools are expected to maintain cleanliness and conduct fogging activities in collaboration with local authorities to reduce the prevalence of disease-carrying vectors.

Appointment of Nodal Teachers

To enhance awareness among students, each District Basic Education Officer will designate a nodal teacher in every school. These teachers will play a crucial role in educating students about communicable diseases and encouraging them to adhere to the newly established dress code. They will also oversee the resolution of water logging issues and collaborate with relevant departments to facilitate mosquito control measures.

Engaging Parents in Awareness Campaigns

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had previously instructed the Health Department to prepare for diseases like Dengue, Malaria, and Chikungunya. In alignment with these directives, Dr. Mahendra Dev, the Director of Basic Education, has issued a circular to all District Basic Education Officers. This circular emphasizes the active involvement of the Basic Education Department in the state's communicable disease control campaign, scheduled to commence on October 3.
