On Tuesday, the Bihar Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, approved a proposal to recruit 1.78 lakh teachers for primary, middle, and upper classes in the state. The proposal includes recruiting 85,477 primary teachers, 1,745 middle teachers, and 90,804 teachers for upper classes. The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) will conduct the recruitment process, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year, according to Additional Chief Secretary (Cabinet Secretariat) S Siddharth.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the Transport Department's proposal to ban commercial vehicles that are more than 15 years old and diesel-powered buses and autos in Gaya and Muzaffarpur from September 30, 2023. The Transport Department will issue a circular soon to commercial vehicle owners using diesel, informing them of the switchover to CNG buses and to escape penalties.

The Nitish Kumar government had already announced a complete ban on all commercial vehicles more than 15-years-old and diesel-powered buses and autos in the territorial jurisdictions of Patna municipal corporation (PMC) and town councils (nagar parishads) of Danapur, Phulwari Sharif, and Khagaul from October 1.

The Bihar government had allocated the highest amount of the state budget outlay for education, with a total outlay of Rs 40,450 crore, followed by health with Rs 16,966 crore, road with Rs 17,487 crore, and the social welfare sector with Rs 12,439 crore for the fiscal year 2023-24.
