Assam: Assam Government Reserves 5% Seats in Colleges for State School Students 

In a significant move, the Assam government has decided to allocate 5 percent of seats in medical and engineering colleges for students who have completed their education in state-run schools. This decision, taken during a state cabinet meeting, aims to promote and reward students who have pursued their academic journey within the state education system.

1. Eligibility Criteria for Reserved Seats To avail of the benefit, students must fulfill specific eligibility criteria. They should have studied from Class 7 to 12 in government schools affiliated with state boards. It's essential to note that this reservation does not apply to students studying in CBSE-affiliated schools in Assam.

2. Encouraging Return to Government Schools Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has emphasized that this initiative is intended to encourage students to choose and stay within the state government school system. By reserving seats in prestigious medical and engineering colleges, the government aims to highlight the quality of education offered by state-run schools.

3. Scooters for High-Performing Students In addition to the seat reservation policy, the state cabinet has also decided to reward high-performing students. Girl students who have secured a minimum of 60 percent marks and boys who have achieved a remarkable 75 percent marks in their Class 12 examinations will receive scooters this year.

4. Scooter Distribution Timeline The Chief Minister has announced that eligible students can anticipate receiving their scooters in November of this year.
