Government to Revise SWAYAM Courses for Enhanced Learning Opportunities
SWAYAM Platform Update
SWAYAM: Students and professionals nationwide can breathe a sigh of relief as the government embarks on a review of over 18,000 free courses available on the SWAYAM platform. This initiative aims to enhance the learning experience for young, aspiring individuals. The subjects under scrutiny include engineering, humanities, social sciences, agriculture, vocational skills, and management, among others. Adjustments to the curriculum will be made following this comprehensive review.
Mandatory Report by March 10th
In addition to the review, new courses will be introduced to better connect students with job opportunities. The Ministry of Education is set to evaluate and update the SWAYAM offerings. To facilitate this, Prof. Manish Joshi, Secretary of the University Grants Commission (UGC), has reached out to all states and universities. He has requested that they align free online courses with their academic programs for the January 2026 semester and ensure credit transfer arrangements. All higher education institutions are required to submit their reports detailing the courses and any identified gaps by March 10th, which will inform the review process.
The review will also address various aspects, including the choice of language for courses.
The goal is to ensure that the courses meet the specific requirements of universities. This encompasses selecting the appropriate language for the course, determining the course level (postgraduate), adhering to the National Credit Framework (NCRF), compiling a list of subjects, identifying courses for the upcoming semester, and any unique course designs that institutions may wish to propose.
