Delhi School Admission Process

The nursery admission process for schools in Delhi is set to commence on December 4th. Parents can submit applications online at all participating schools, which aims to simplify the process and eliminate the need for physical visits. Many families are currently compiling lists of their preferred schools in hopes of securing a spot for their children.

Various quotas exist for admissions in Delhi schools, including a management quota that allows schools to allocate seats based on their discretion.

Understanding the Management Quota

The management quota has sparked considerable discussion among parents and stakeholders over the years. There are allegations that this quota is often misused, with claims that schools may sell seats at inflated prices. In 2016, the local government attempted to abolish this quota, but a ruling from the Delhi High Court mandated its continuation, leading to its persistent use in admissions each year.

Seat Reservations Under Management Quota

Schools in Delhi are permitted to reserve between 5% to 20% of their total seats under the management quota. For instance, if a school has 100 available seats, up to 20 can be allocated through this quota. The allocation process is at the school's discretion, and some institutions may also include their staff or teachers in this quota. The ambiguity surrounding the management quota regulations often raises questions.

EWS Quota for Underprivileged Children

In addition to the management quota, all Delhi schools must reserve 25% of their seats for children from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). This requirement is mandatory, and these seats cannot be reassigned to other applicants. Priority is given to children who have siblings already enrolled in the school, as well as those residing closest to the institution. Additionally, children from special categories are also prioritized during the admission process.
