Exciting News for Aspiring Teachers in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: For the thousands of youth dreaming of becoming teachers in Uttar Pradesh, there is promising news. The application process for UPTET 2026 has commenced today, Friday. The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission has introduced several new measures to enhance transparency in the examination process. These include the requirement for live photo uploads, a selfie option, and the collection of details regarding any twin siblings. Additionally, for the first time, reservations will be provided for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).

How and When to Apply

Registration for UPTET 2026 will be open from March 27, 2026, until April 26, 2026. Candidates must first complete the One Time Registration (OTR). The deadline for submitting applications and fees is April 26, while the last date for corrections and fee resolutions is set for May 1, 2026. The examination will take place on July 2, 3, and 4, 2026. Applications can only be submitted through the official website www.upessc.up.gov.in.

Mandatory Live Photo and Twin Information

This year, the commission has implemented strict measures to prevent fraud. All candidates are required to upload a live photo, which can also be a selfie. Live photos can be uploaded by scanning a mobile QR code. Furthermore, candidates must disclose whether they have any twin siblings. If so, they need to provide the twin's name, gender, Aadhaar details, and examination participation information. This data is essential for verification purposes.

EWS Reservation Introduced for the First Time

In UPTET 2026, the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) will receive reservation benefits for the first time. Candidates from the unreserved category must score at least 60 percent, which translates to 90 out of 150 marks. For EWS, OBC, SC, and ST categories, a minimum of 55 percent, or 82 marks, will suffice. This change is seen as a step towards making the path to becoming a teacher more inclusive.

Required Documents and Application Fees

Applicants should have their Aadhaar card, marksheets for 10th, 12th, and graduation, training certificates, caste certificates (if applicable), passport-sized photographs, and signatures ready. The application fee is set at ₹1000 for General/OBC/EWS candidates, ₹500 for SC/ST candidates, and ₹300 for persons with disabilities for one paper. The fee doubles for both papers. Payments can be made online via ICICI Bank or SBI e-Pay.

Technical Issues or Fee Objections

If candidates encounter technical difficulties during the application process, it is recommended to use Google Chrome and clear cache and cookies. If issues persist, they can reach out to uptet.support@upessc.org. While the portal is mobile-friendly, applying via desktop is advised. Some teacher organizations have raised concerns regarding the fee increase and are urging the Chief Minister to intervene.
