New MCC Rules Streamline NEET UG Counselling Process for Students
Overview of New MCC Regulations
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has introduced a series of new regulations designed to simplify the admission process for students. Notably, students looking to upgrade their seats will no longer be required to make multiple trips to the medical college.
Changes in NEET UG Counselling
A major update has been made to the NEET UG counselling procedure. The MCC's new rules aim to ease the admission process for students. After the initial reporting, most subsequent procedures can now be handled online.
Under the new directive from the Central Government, candidates need to report to their designated medical college only once. If a student wishes to apply for a better seat in the next round, they can do so without needing to return to the college for document verification. They can continue in the counselling process while keeping their current seat.
Single Physical Reporting Requirement
With the new system, if a candidate opts for the ‘float’ option after receiving a seat in the first or second round, they can secure their seat through online document verification. If they obtain a better seat in the following round, the previous seat will automatically be vacated and offered to another candidate. If no better seat is available, the candidate retains their initially allotted seat. However, those who choose to ‘freeze’ their seat after the third round must physically report to the institution once to finalize their admission, which includes original document verification and fee payment.
Online Withdrawal and NRI Document Verification
The MCC has also launched online features within the counselling framework. Candidates can now withdraw their allotted seat online via the MCC portal, eliminating the need to visit the respective institute. Furthermore, candidates in the NRI category have been granted relief. Previously, they had to send additional eligibility documents via email, which often caused delays. Now, these documents can be uploaded directly to an online portal, expediting the verification process.
Enhancements for Transparency in Counselling
The government has made several technical enhancements to ensure a more secure and transparent counselling process. These improvements include the use of pre-filled candidate data from the National Testing Agency (NTA), seat matrices validated by the National Medical Commission (NMC), online document verification, and a cybersecurity framework developed in partnership with the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
Support for Candidates
A toll-free helpline (1800-102-7637) is now available 24/7 to assist candidates throughout the counselling process. Additionally, candidates can reach out via email at mcc2026@government.in for any complaints or concerns.
Improvements for PwBD Candidates
Significant advancements have also been made for candidates in the PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) category. The number of assessment centers for these candidates has increased from 16 to 61 nationwide. Moreover, a new Appellate Disability Assessment Board has been established to provide timely support for eligible candidates.
