Important Update on NEET UG 2026 Fee Refund

NEET UG 2026 Fee Refund: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a crucial notification for NEET UG 2026 candidates. In light of the recent NEET paper leak incident, the NTA has activated a link on its official website late Friday night to allow candidates to request a refund of their application fees for the cancelled exam. Candidates interested in obtaining a refund can now visit neet.nta.nic.in to update their bank account information online.

The NTA has specified that the window for updating bank details will be available only from May 22 to May 27, 2026, until 11:50 PM. After this period, no candidate will be able to make changes to their information. This step was taken due to concerns that many candidates had submitted their NEET UG 2026 applications through cyber cafes or Common Service Centers (CSCs), which could lead to refunds being mistakenly credited to those third-party accounts. Candidates can now choose to receive the refund directly into their own bank accounts or those of their parents.

**Refunds Will Not Go to Cyber Cafe Accounts**

It is common for candidates to fill out their application forms at cyber cafes or computer centers. In such cases, the application fee is often paid using the debit or credit card of the cyber cafe operator. Acknowledging this issue, the NTA has indicated that if refunds were issued without this verification, the entire refund amount would likely be sent to the bank accounts of those cyber cafe operators. Therefore, a dedicated 'Refund Portal' has been established to protect candidates from potential financial loss and ensure transparency in the refund process.

**Refund Amounts Based on Category**

As per the NTA's guidelines, candidates will receive a full refund of their application fee based on their respective categories. The fee structure is as follows:

Category Refund Amount
General Category ₹1,700
OBC and EWS ₹1,600
ST, SC, and Persons with Disabilities ₹1,000

**Required Information for Refund**

When candidates access the NEET UG refund link, they must carefully enter four essential details related to their bank account. These include the Account Holder's Name, Bank Name, Account Number, and the IFSC Code of the bank branch. The NTA has also mentioned that candidates may optionally upload a scanned copy of a cancelled cheque or the front page of their bank passbook for added security and accuracy, although this is not mandatory.

**Re-Exam Scheduled for June 21**
While the refund process is ongoing, the NTA is also preparing for the re-examination. The NEET UG 2026 re-exam is set to take place on June 21, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM. Similar to the original exam, this will be conducted in an offline format using pen and paper. Candidates who had previously registered for this examination will not need to pay any additional fees. New admit cards will be issued to all candidates in the second week of June.
